It’s May and we’ve just harvested our first crop of kumara from our kumara garden bed. It’s a special feeling harvesting a crop from your land. No matter what it is, it’s a reflection of what you’ve put into it.
The Organic Edible Garden Calendar suggests harvesting during full moon. We had rain earlier in that week, so we waited until Sunday to make sure the crop was dry, making it easier for the kumara to harden off (dry) before storing. We’ve talked with a few people about storing and the best method is storing in the dark (to prevent sprouting) wrapped in newspaper.

And here’s a good video from Self Sufficient Me on propagating, growing, harvesting, and more. A good place to start and get growing.
